Rome, GA-The Belhaven women's basketball team will begin their postseason run Thursday night in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament when they battle a familiar foe in the University of Mobile. The Blazers, who are the number one seed from the west division, meet up for the third time this season with the Rams who toppled Southern Wesleyan University 64-55 in one of two play in games Wednesday.
Belhaven (23-7) has already earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament due to winning the west division, but would love to take home an outright conference championship. The Blazers are led by
Regena Jackson who averages 16.8 points per game while
Kiara Johnson and
Sarah Carr also average double figures at 12.5 and 10.9 points per game respectively. Carr broke the Belhaven single season three point record early this season and has 76 triples coming into the tournament ranking her 10th in the country.
Mobile is now 17-10 following their victory over Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday. Alyssa Lane fired in a game high 25 points followed by Alice Honnery with 16 points. Honnery also blocked six shots and was second in the NAIA in total blocks heading into the tournament. The Rams are also very good defending the three point shot limiting opponents to a 23.2 percent shooting clip from behind the arc this season.
