Blazers Get Three Wins at William Carey Invitational

Hattiesburg, MS- The Belhaven women's softball team traveled to William Carey University on Friday to take on Georgetown College, Union University and Louisiana State University –Alexandria. In the first contest, the Blazers defeated Georgetown College 4-0. The Blazers then took on Union University winning 4-0 while defeating LSU-Alexandria in the last contest 10-1.

Game One
The Blazers put up three of their four runs in the first inning against Georgetown. Christina Jaques scored the first run on a wild pitch from Whitney Ealey. Rebecca Rousseau then hit a double bringing in Annalee Carr. Kayla Maldonado followed with a single to left center bringing in Rousseau for the run. The Blazers rallied four hits and three runs in the inning taking a 3-0 lead.

The Blazers struck again in the bottom of the 3rd putting another run on the board when Maldonado hit a single to bring in Rachel Wright for the score giving the Blazers a 4-0 advantage. The run would be the last run of the contest. The Blazers put up 8 hits with Kayla Maldonado leading the way with two. Sarah Burns pitched six innings giving up four hits with no runs allowed. Burns win loss record goes to 12-2. Four Georgetown players got a hit as Ealey, Clemons, Plain and Brown all had singles. Michelle Dresselhaus received the loss giving her a win-loss record of 5-3.

Game Two
Union University was Belhaven's next opponent and once again the Blazers jumped ahead early by placing a run on the broad in the bottom of the second. Rebecca Rousseau scored off a Christina Jaques single giving the Blazers the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th Annalee Carr hit a single to allow Lizzy Hess to score. Rian O'Bannon then scored from a wild pitch by Keaton Kirk giving the Blazers a 3-0 advantage.

In the 5th inning the Blazers tacked on another run as Hess scored from a bunt by Jaques turning the Blazers lead to 4-0. The Blazers would take the 4-0 final score gaining another victory for the win column. Jaques and Carr led the Blazers with three hits apiece and had one RBI apiece. Rebecca Rousseau got the start in the circle pitching all six innings. Rousseau gave up only two hits and no runs nudging her season record to 9-1. Tobie Joy and Amber Hayes got one hit apiece for Union. Brooke Thomas pitched all six innings giving up 8 hits and 4 runs. The loss drops Thomas' season record to 6-2.

Game Three
The Blazers defeated LSU-A in their final contest of the day 10-1. Annalee Carr led the way going 3 for 3 with a double, triple and a run scored. Jaques drove in three runs on a home run and Austin picked up 2 RBI's on a double. Wright, Maldonado, Sanders, and Hess all had one hit, on RBI, and one run scored. Sarah Burns got the start in the circle pitching all six innings. Burns is now 13-2 on the season in wins and losses.

The three wins boost the Blazers season record to 23-3. Belhaven will travel to Louisiana State University at Alexandria on Monday for a doubleheader that is set to begin at 3:00 PM.
