Blazers Suffer Loss to Truett-McConnell

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven women's soccer team was overtaken 1-0 by Truett-McConnell in a Southern States Athletic Conference contest at H.T. Newell Field on Saturday night. The Blazers are now 5-7-1 overall and 3-4 in the SSAC following the loss.

Both offenses struggled in the first half, especially Truett-McConnell with only one shot attempt in the opening period. Belhaven had five shots on goal in the first half, but could not push any of them past goalkeeper Hayle Swinson as the match remained scoreless going into halftime.

Truett-McConnell (3-8-1, 1-5 SSAC) recorded the only goal of the match five and half minutes into the second half. Belhaven goalie Nicole Walsh came out top to try and secure a loose ball, but it was jarred free and Lindsay Porter had an open look for the goal. Belhaven had six more shot attempts in the second half, but none of them found pay dirt as the Bears held on for the win.

Christin Kaim led the Blazers in shot attempts with five including two on goal. Rebecca Ontero attempted two shots on goal and Krista Brizeno had three shots in the match. Belhaven outshot Truett-McConnell Saturday night 11-7. Walsh took the loss in net allowing the one goal while making four saves.

Porter had five of the Bears seven shots in the match with the games only score. Swinson earned the shutout thanks to seven saves on the night.

Belhaven will try and bounce back when they travel to the University of Mobile on Tuesday for an SSAC match with the Rams starting at 5:00 PM.
