Blazers Fall to Union University in OT

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven Women's soccer team lost in overtime Saturday afternoon to Union University at H.T. Newell Field. The Blazers hung tough the entire first and second half until Union scored the winning goal a little over three minutes into sudden death overtime. The loss brings the Blazers season record to 1-6.

The overtime kick came off the foot of Union University's Terilyn Wassell in the 93rd minute assisted by Bridget Roney. Wassell's shot was partially deflected by goalie Kelli Brewer, but unfortunately rolled into the corner of the net for the score. The Blazers managed to out shoot Union University 11-10 with four shots on goal while Union (5-3) had five shots on goal. MaryBeth Webber led the Blazers in shots with four and one shot on goal. Wassell led Union University in shots with three including two on goal with one of those being the game winner.

Kelli Brewer got the start at the net for the Blazers playing all 93 minutes turning in four saves yet suffered the loss bringing her record to 0-3 on the season. Grace Boto started in net for Union University and managed four saves as she earns her first win in her first start of the season for the Bulldogs.

The Blazers are back in action on October 5th when they travel to NCAA Division II Delta State University in Cleveland, MS at 1:00 p.m.
