Siloam Springs, AR-The Belhaven men's soccer team used three second half goals to grab a 3-1 come from behind victory against 24th ranked Oklahoma City University Friday afternoon in game one of the John Brown Invitational. The win keeps the Blazers perfect in the win column this season boosting their record to 5-0 to start the year.
Oklahoma City (3-1) took the early lead when midfielder John Dill connected to drive the ball past Belhaven goalie
Gautier Troch to make it a 1-0 game in the 38th minute. The score by Dill was just the second allowed by Troch so far this season.
It would take some time for the Blazers to answer, but when they did it was fast and furious.
Guilherme Brandao evened the contest at 1-1 when he launched his fourth goal of the season past Stars goalkeeper Andy Fitzpatrick in the 72 minute. Brandao would strike again four minutes later for what would prove to be the game winner and his fifth score in the 2010 campaign. The assist was credited to
Stefan Fernandez which was his second of the year.
Will Monsour added an insurance goal in the 89th minute on a play set up by Phillip Forsman who was given his second assist of the season.
The Blazers were outshot in the match 14-11, but managed seven shots on goal compared to only five for the Stars. Brandao has had a great start to the season for Belhaven with a team high five goals including two game winners, an assist, and team high 11 points. Troch made four saves in the match as he runs his 2010 record in net to 5-0. Fitzpatrick turned away four Blazer shots, but gave up all three second half goals and suffers the loss for the Stars.
Belhaven will meet up with John Brown University Saturday afternoon starting at 3:00 PM in game number two of the John Brown Invitational.
