Ridgeland, MS-The Belhaven softball team began the day on Friday with a 4-0 record and when the dust had settled at Freedom Ridge Park the Blazers doubled their season win total thanks to four victories on day one of the Belhaven Bash II Tournament. Belhaven opened the day with an 8-0 win over against Mid-Continent in game one, topped Williams Baptist College in game two 7-1, and swept a doubleheader from Dillard University by the final scores of 21-2 and 15-1.
Game One vs. Mid-Continent
Belhaven (8-0) took advantage of a number of miscues by Mid-Continent in the first game of the afternoon. The Cougars committed seven errors in the game which in one form or another led to the majority of Belhaven's eight runs.
Rebecca Rousseau shutdown Mid-Continent in the top of the first inning and then
Britney Webb got the Blazers rolling on offense with a home run over the left field wall to make it 1-0.
Belhaven added to their lead in the third inning scoring four times with just two hits. The Cougars committed five costly errors as the Blazers seized control of the game. Belhaven tacked on two more runs in the fourth as the result of two more Mid-Continent errors and then ended the game in bottom of the fifth when
Tiffany Ansley doubled, went to third on a groundout by
Heather Pace, and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Rousseau picked up her third win of the season and is now 3-0 in the circle for Belhaven after working all five innings allowing only two hits while striking out two.
Christina Jaques led the Belhaven offense with two hits and Webb's home run produced the only RBI of the game. Meagan Wilson took the loss pitching 4.1 innings with all eight runs allowed. However, only three of the runs were earned.
Game Two vs. Williams Baptist
The Blazers were the visitors on the scoreboard for the second game of the day against Williams Baptist, but that did not phase the Belhaven offense or defense. Webb led off the contest at the plate and promptly blasted her second home run of the day over the left center field fence to put the Blazers on top 1-0. Belhaven then tallied two more runs in the second on RBI groundouts by
Katie Sanders and
Lizzy Hess.
The game remained 3-0 Belhaven until the sixth when the Blazers scored four times with three of the runs scoring on an error.
Heather Pace doubled home Jaques for the first run and then with two outs and the bases loaded
Megan Timbs hit a fly ball to center field, but Felecia Woodard dropped the ball as the bases cleared. The Eagles scored their lone run of the game on an RBI single by Kim Simmons in the bottom of the sixth.
Sarah Burns pitched all seven innings and earned her third win of the season for Belhaven in the center of the diamond. Burns allowed only three hits and struck out 10 Williams Baptist hitters. Webb, Jaques,
Jessica Eggold, and
Heather Pace had the only hits in the game for Belhaven. Karisa Hendrix pitched all seven innings for the Eagles and was charged with the loss.
Game Three vs. Dillard
Belhaven opened up the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference schedule with a pair of convincing wins over Dillard University. In what was the third game of the day for the Blazers, Belhaven pounded out 21 runs on 21 hits in route to the 21-2 win over the Bleu Devils. The Blazers scored eight runs in the first, six in the second, four in the third, and three in the fourth.
A number of Blazers had big games at the plate led by
Rachel Wright who went two for two at the dish with a game high four runs batted in. Three of the RBI's came on her first home run of the season.
Salina Cervantes was three for four and had three runs batted in while Webb, Ansley,
Chelsea Randle, and
Heather Pace also had two RBI's apiece. Pace and Randle joined Cervantes with three hits each.
Cervantes picked up her first win in 2010 as she tossed all five innings allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. The two Dillard runs came on a two run homer to center field by Katrina Doran in the top of the first inning.
Game Four vs. Dillard
Belhaven wrapped up the day with another strong performance against Dillard. This time the Blazers scored all 15 of their runs within a two inning span tallying six runs in the first followed by nine more runs in the second inning.
It was
Rian O'Bannon's time to shine in this game for Belhaven as she led the Blazer offense with four RBI's. O'Bannon was two for three at the plate with one of those hits being a three run home run.
Britanee Pace came off the bench to collect two hits and also had an RBI.

Rebecca Rousseau, Randle, and Ansley also notched an RBI in the game.
Megan Timbs got the win in the circle for Belhaven pitching all five innings surrendering one run on three hits with five strikeouts. The Blazers will be back in action on Saturday when they wrap up the Belhaven Bash II Tournament with single games against Mid-Continent and Williams Baptist. Belhaven will battle Mid-Continent at 11:00 AM and will then face Williams Baptist at 3:00 PM.
