Blazers Fly by Pensacola Christian College

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven women's basketball team defeated Pensacola Christian College Saturday night in Rugg Arena by the final score of 85-39. The Blazers aggressive defense and strong offensive presence was the nemesis for the Eagles all night. 

Belhaven (7-3) had four players in double figures as Sierra Cavitt led the way for the Blazers scoring a season high 16 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Jessica Barlow and Sarah Carr both turned in 11 points apiece while Carr dished out three assists and Barlow snatched a team high 10 rebounds. Wendy Charles turned in 10 points on the night and Kiara Johnson chipped in eight points and dished out a team high seven assists. 

The Blazers were in full control from the opening tip jumping out of the gate on a 12-0 run. The Blazers never looked back from that point on. As a team, Belhaven shot 44.9% from the field and 38.5% from three point range. The Blazers managed to rally in 50 total rebounds on the night with 25 of them being offensive. The Blazers forced the Eagles into 30 turnovers leading to 39 points and managed 19 steals in the contest. 

Pensacola Christian College (0-14) was led in scoring by Elisabeth Marino with eight points and three assists. Amy Ausley followed Marino in scoring with seven points and a team high four assists. Karen Kendall chipped in six points while Jenny Mitchell snatched a team high five rebounds. The Eagles managed to shoot 71.4% from the charity stripe while the Blazers only shot 62.5%. 

The Blazers took a 27 point lead into halftime and increased their edge as the game progressed. At the 6:35 in the second half the Blazers enjoyed a 40 point lead on the Eagles finished the game out with a 46 point advantage. 

The win brings the Blazers season record to 7-3. Belhaven will be back in action next Friday as they take on Shorter University who is ranked 21st in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 PM in Rugg Arena.
