Gainesville, GA- The Belhaven women's basketball team couldn't keep up with Brenau University on Saturday as the Golden Tigers defeated the Blazers 81-49. The Blazers had a rough game shooting the basketball going 18 for 64 from the field at 28.1%, and 4-17 from three point range which equated to at 23.5 shooting percentage. For the first time this season, Belhaven did not have a player score in double figures.
Belhaven (5-3) was led on the offensive side of the floor by
Rachenia Powell and Erica Leflore who both turned in nine points apiece.
Sarah Carr was able to chip in eight points while Wendy Charles and Alex Hastings turned in six points apiece.
Mycal Smith grabbed a team high seven rebounds while Charles dished out a team high three assists.
The Blazers forced Brenau into 22 turnovers yet couldn't make the most of their opportunities. Belhaven was unable to cash on the Golden Tigers mistakes after not being able to get it going from the field, behind the arch or even the free throw where the Blazers went 9-17 for 52.9 percent.
Brenau University (5-0) was led by Tatiana Khudiakova on the offensive side of the floor with 20 points and nine rebounds. Anastasia Minaeva turned in 17 points and five assists while Raveen Crawford had 12 points and four assists. As a team the Golden Tigers outscored the Blazers 41-26 in the first half and 40-23 in the second half.
The Golden Tigers forced the Blazers into committing 24 turnovers, came away with 11 steals and were able to out rebound the Blazers 40-34. The loss brings Belhaven's season record to 5-3 overall and 3-2 on the road. The Blazers will take some time off for Thanksgiving break and will be back in action on December 1 at the University of New Orleans. The tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
