Box Score Game 1        Box Score Game 2
Jackson, TN-The Belhaven softball team traveled to Lambuth University on Wednesday afternoon and came away with a pair of victories over the Lady Eagles with a final score of 8-7 in game one and 9-1 in game two of the afternoon. The Lady Blazers eclipsed the 30 win mark this season improving to 31-13 in 2009.

Game One

Belhaven exploded out of the gate early in game one with a two run first inning to take a quick 2-0 advantage. With one out, Jessica Eggold reached base on an infield single and came in on Mallory Meadows 14th home run the season. The two run shot to straight away center field would prove to be the first of three homers for Meadows on the day.

Lambuth would go on to score six unanswered runs to capture a 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the second, Stephanie Johnson singled home the first run of the game for the Lady Eagles. A passed ball on Belhaven catcher Chelseas Randle accounted for the inning's second run knotting the score at 2-2.

Lambuth added four more runs in the third inning on two hits and two costly Lady Blazer errors. The first two runs scored on the two errors which were errant throws by Heather Pace and Tiffany Ansley. Lindsey Akin capped the frame off with a two run homer over the left field fence making the score 6-2. Meadows came in to pitch and got the final two outs of the inning to limit the damage.

Belhaven cracked the scoreboard again in the top of the fifth after the first two batters were retired to begin the inning. Kayla Maldonado drew a walk and then Britney Webb tripled to deep left field plating Maldonado all the way from first base.

The Lady Blazers tied the game at 6-6 with three runs in the sixth inning on three hits and an error. With runners on first and third with one out, Keresa Steichen hit what looked to be a potential double play ball at the shortstop Dentaisha Meadows. Meadows watched as the ball went through her legs and into left center field bringing in Heather Pace and Ansley. Randle then delivered a two out single to left chasing home Steichen from third base.

Meadows, who had homered in the first inning, stepped to the plate in the top of the seventh with two outs and a runner on and promptly blasted her second long ball of the game and 15th of the season deep over the left field fence pushing Belhaven back on top 8-6. Lambuth tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh and plated a run on a pair of hits, but could get no closer as Meadows closed the door and secured the victory.

Meadows pitched 4.2 innings in relief allowing a run on four hits to get the win and improve to 6-1 on the season. Paige Pyburn fired all seven innings for the Lady Eagles and was charged with all eight runs six of which were earned. Offensively, Meadows went 3 for 4 at the plate with 4 RBI's while Steichen, Webb, and Randle chipped in with an RBI apiece. Akin and Johnson led Lambuth in game one with two hits and 2 RBI's each.

Game Two

Belhaven never trailed in the day's second game although the contest remained close during the first four innings. The Lady Blazers recorded a run in the first inning and once again it was Meadows who came up with the RBI. Eggold induced a walk, stole second, and crossed the plate on Meadows single through the middle of the infield.

Belhaven chalked up two more runs in the top of the third to build their lead to 3-0. Eggold walked, stole second, and went to third base on a passed ball. Heather Pace hit a ground ball to third and Autumn King threw to the plate to try and get Eggold who made it home safely on the fielder's choice. Pace eventually made it to third and came home on an RBI groundout by Ansley.

The Lady Blazers doubled their lead to 6-0 with a three run fifth putting some distance between themselves and the Lady Eagles. With runners on the corners and one out, pitcher Salina Cervantes helped her own cause smashing her fifth home run of the year on a 0-1 pitch over the left center field fence. Lambuth got their one and only score of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff home run from Johnson making the score 6-1.

Belhaven went to work again in the top of the sixth getting a leadoff walk by Maldonado and a double by Webb placing runners on second and third. Maldonado was cut down at home on a fielder's choice by Eggold with Webb going to third and then Eggold being thrown out trying to get to second. That did not faze the Lady Blazers as Pace singled home Webb and then Meadows put the icing on the cake with another two run homer over the left field fence, which was her 16th of the season, giving the Lady Blazers a 9-1 lead. The 16 home runs by Meadows surpasses her total of 15 from a year ago and also sets a new Belhaven single season home run record.

Cervantes came back out in the bottom of the sixth and got a quick one, two, three inning and ended the game due to the eight run rule going into effect. Cervantes is now 14-6 on the year after pitching the complete game allowing a run on just four hits. Hannah Trice suffered the loss having been charged with six of the nine runs on five hits.

Meadows and Cervantes led the Lady Blazer offense in game two with two hits and 3 RBI's. Pace added a pair of RBI's and Ansley also contributed an RBI in the 9-1 victory. Belhaven had four stolen bases in the second game as Eggold swiped two bases followed by Webb and Ansley who had one steal apiece.

On top of Meadows new home run record, she broke the school record for most RBI's in a season with 71 so far while Britney Webb eclipsed the stolen base record with 47 and Heather Pace now has a new doubles record of 22 this season. As a team, the Lady Blazers have now plated a season record of 332 runs with seven more regular season games to play.

Belhaven take the field again on Thursday when they return home to battle NCAA Division I Alcorn State at Freedom Ridge Park beginning at 3 PM.
