Box Score vs Grace        Box Score vs Williams Baptist        Box Score vs Lindenwood
Jackson, MS-The Belhaven softball team completed day two of the Belhaven Elite Eight tournament on Saturday afternoon winning two out of three contests on the day. The Lady Blazers topped Grace College in game one by a final of 9-1, defeated Williams Baptist College in game two 6-1, and lost their final game of the day to Lindenwood University 9-4. Belhaven is now 17-10 overall on the season after Saturday's games.

Game One versus Grace College

Belhaven was the visiting team on the scoreboard in the first game of the day against Grace College and didn't waste any time putting runs on the board. The Lady Blazers struck for four runs in the top of the first on four hits and one costly error. Britney Webb, Mallory Meadows, and Keresa Steichen all had run scoring hits in the inning.

Belhaven extended the lead to 7-0 in the top of the second with three runs on two hits. Kayla Maldonado led off the inning with a walk and came home on Webb's seventh triple of the season. Webb crossed the plate on a base hit up the middle by Jessica Eggold who eventually scored on a Lady Lancer error.

No scoring occurred in the third or fourth innings but Belhaven got the offense going again in the top of the fifth with two more runs to make the score 9-0 Lady Blazers. Meadows kicked off the inning by blasting her eighth home run of the year over the center field fence. Run number two was scored by Tiffany Ansley who was driven in on a ground out by Jessica Wright.

The Lady Lancers avoided the shutout in the bottom of the fifth with an unearned run off of starting pitcher Mallory Meadows, but that's all the offense they could muster. Meadows quickly got the final out with the 9-1 lead and ended the game in five innings due to the eight run rule being in effect. For Meadows, it was her fourth win in five decisions on the season at the center of the diamond.

Offensively, the Lady Blazers got 2 RBI's from Meadows and single RBI's from Webb, Eggold, Steichen, Wright, and Heather Pace.

Game Two versus Williams Baptist

Belhaven kept the momentum going in the second game jumping ahead with three runs in the bottom of the first frame. Eggold singled home Webb after Webb double to left to begin the inning. Meadows then smacked a double to center with Eggold scoring on an error by Flenor. Meadows advanced to third on that same error and came in on a sacrifice fly by Ansley to make the score 3-0 Belhaven.

The Lady Blazers added two more tallies in the third inning on another sacrifice fly off the bat of Ansley bringing in Eggold from third base. Salina Cervantes was credited with the second RBI of the inning by driving a base hit to left as Meadows crossed the plate for the fifth run of the game.

Williams Baptist came back to plate a run in the top of the fourth after two batters were out. The Lady Blazers committed three errors in the inning allowing the unearned run. The Lady Blazers put up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on another run scoring base hit by Meadows. Cervantes and the Belhaven defense wrapped up the game by shutting down Williams Baptist in the final inning to preserve the 6-1 win.

Cervantes pitched all seven innings for her seventh win of the season allowing just one unearned run on four hits. The offensive attack was led by Meadows who went 4 for 4 at the plate with an RBI along with Eggold who had 3 hits in 4 at bats with an RBI.

Game Three versus Lindenwood

Belhaven matched up with the Lady Lions of Lindenwood in the third game and lost 9-4 in the final contest of the day. The Lady Blazers had won two previous meetings with Lindenwood this season taking 5-3 and 9-7 decisions at the Belhaven Bash earlier in the year.

The Lady Lions opened the game scoring three runs in the top of the first and two more in the top of the second to open up a 5-0 lead. Belhaven climbed right back into it in the bottom of the second with three runs of their own. The Lady Lions opened the door with a couple of costly errors. Chelsea Randle and Kayla Maldonado each had RBI base hits in the inning.

Unfortunately, Belhaven would score only one more run the rest of the game and that came in the bottom of the seventh after Lindenwood had tacked on three more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. Ashley Mottola was charged with five of the eight runs on the mound and sees her overall record fall to 6-4 in 2009. Heather Pace had three hits while Maldonado and Randle each chipped in with two hits in game three.

Belhaven will take the next couple of days off before taking on LSU-Alexandria at home this Wednesday in a double header at Freedom Ridge Park beginning at 5 PM.
