Lady Blazers Go 1-2 on Friday in Elite Eight Tourney

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven softball team went 1-2 on the opening day of the Belhaven College Elite Eight tournament at Freedom Ridge Park Friday afternoon. The Lady Blazers are now 15-9 overall after the three games.
                      
Game One
 
In game one Belhaven matched up with Oklahoma Baptist University and lost 4-2. The Lady Blazers got out to an early lead with single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings. Kayla Maldonado and Jessica Eggold were credited with the RBI's.
 
Belhaven held a 2-0 advantage through four innings but in the top of the fifth Oklahoma Baptist pulled even with a pair of runs in the frame. OBU came back to get two more scores in the top of the seventh and held the Lady Blazers off the board in the bottom of the inning to preserve the 4-2 win.
 
Salina Cervantes took the loss to fall to 6-4 on the season. Amanda Hanner got the win in relief pitching two innings of shutout baseball.
 
Game Two
 
The second game of the day featured Belhaven against Southern Nazarene University with the Crimson Storm pulling out a 5-3 win. The Lady Blazers had an early lead once again vaulting in front 3-0. Belhaven scored a run in the top of the first and plated two runners in the top of the second.
 
All five runs in the game for Southern Nazarene came home in the bottom of the fifth inning and they closed the door defensively on the Lady Blazers the rest of the way for the victory. Cervantes saw her pitching record fall to 6-5 working six allowing five unearned runs on five hits. Offensively, Jessica Eggold led the team going 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's.
 
Game Three
 
The Lady Blazers wrapped up the day with a convincing 10-0 triumph over Grace College. Belhaven scored in five of the six innings played putting the run rule in effect after six innings. The Lady Blazers posted single runs in the first and second innings followed by two more in the third and two in the fifth and four in the sixth.
 
Tiffany Ansley went 4 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBI's to lead the offense. Mallory Meadows, Heather Pace and Jessica Eggold also collected an RBI. Meadows also got her third win of the season on the mound allowing just one hit to the Lady Lancers.
 
Belhaven will return to action on Saturday with three more games in the Belhaven College Elite Eight beginning at 11 AM against Grace College.
