The 1982 Blazers were one of the strongest teams in program history and one of the first to make a deep run in the NAIA National Tournament. Across 21 matches, Head Coach Bill Lytton and the Blazers finished 16-3-2 and posted an .810 win percentage.
Belhaven finished 3rd in the 1982 NAIA National Tournament capping off an impressive 16-win campaign which still ranks among the top 10 win in a single-season in program history.
That Blazers' team was a prolific one averaging 3.29 goals per game and tallying 69 across the entirety of the season which both rank the 6th-most in a single year for Belhaven Men's Soccer.
An ability to put the ball in the net was complimented by a stingy defense who allowed just 0.89 goals per game and tallied seven clean sheets during their 1982 campaign. That 0.89 goals against average in the 4th best in a season across Belhaven's history.
With a strong regular season, Belhaven put together an impressive run in the NAIA National Tournament. The Blazers advanced from their Pool with a 2-1 win over Quincy University and a 0-0 draw against Chapman University. After being beaten by Midwestern State in the semi-final match 2-1, the Blazers took down Avila University 2-1 in the 3rd place match to finish off their campaign.
Three Blazers were named to the NAIA All-Tournament team with Tom McCrorey and Robert Pollard earning a spot as a defender and forward respectively. Goalkeeper Dwain Miller earned an All-Tournament Team nod as well in addition to being named the NAIA Tournament MVP.
