JACKSON, Miss. – Belhaven Softball player Juilenne Broussard has been selected as the C Spire Athlete of the Week following her performance this past week ending March 26, 2016.
Broussard earns her second C Spire Athlete of the Week honor this season after the Carencro, La., native was 2-0 for the week, allowing just two hits over 8.2 innings while walking none and striking out 17.
Broussard pitched another complete game shutout and set a new career high for strikeouts in a game with her six-inning victory in the series opener. Broussard allowed just two hits in her shutout win, striking out a career high 12 batters, without allowing a walk or a hit batter.
Then in game three, Broussard tossed 2.2 perfect innings with five strikeouts to earn her second win in as many days.
For the week, Broussard limited opponents to a .071 batting average. She averaged just under two strikeouts per inning.
Broussard has a shutout in each of her last three starts and has four overall on the season. In her last seven appearances overall, the junior has not allowed a run over 28.1 innings pitched. She has not allowed an extra base hit over the run, giving up just 10 singles and two walks, while striking out 43.
Belhaven is set to return to action on Friday and Saturday with games at Jim McLeod Field against Hardin-Simmons University.
