JACKSON, Miss. – Josh Gaskin has been selected as the C Spire Athlete of the Week following his performance from this past week, ending December 5. Gaskin finished with a double-double in each of the Blazers two games over the week.
In the ASC and home opener against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Gaskin's put-back dunk fueled a run in the second overtime to secure the Blazers first victory of the season. In the game, Gaskin finished with 15 points, including 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Gaskin also recorded 13 rebounds in the contest to give the senior his third career double-double. Gaskin also recorded four blocks in the game with an assist and a steal.
In the Blazers' second game of the week, Gaskin collected his fourth career double-double, and third of the season, with a 19-point, 10-rebound effort, leading the Blazers in both categories. Gaskin also had three blocks in the game to go along with two steals and an assist.
For the week, Gaskin finished 14-of-23 from the field with 34 points. He also collected 23 rebounds, seven blocks, three steals and two assists.
This marks the second time this season that Josh Gaskin has been named the C Spire Athlete of the Week. He also received the award two weeks ago after his performance in the Blazers season opener at Emory.
Gaskin and the rest of the Blazers will travel to Shreveport, Louisiana tomorrow for a game against Centenary College before setting their sights on another non-conference tilt on Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama at Huntingdon College.
