JACKSON, Miss. – Senior midfielder Cillian Thompson was selected as the C Spire Athlete of the Week with his performance during the week of October 26 to October 31.
Thompson scored two of his three goals on October 29 at Howard Payne. His first goal came in the 48th minute to break a tie of one apiece. After a Howard Payne goal forced game into overtime, Thompson struck again. In the 103rd minute, the Dunboyne, Ireland native would deliver again to notch the game-winning goal.
Thompson also accomplished 20 career goals on his third goal of the week against No. 25 Texas Dallas on October 31. He becomes the 13th Blazer men's soccer player to accomplish 20 goals in a career.
Thompson has now scored twice in a match three times this season (October 6 vs. Talladega; October 17 vs. Texas-Tyler). He has scored at least one goal in four consecutive matches and in five of the last six matches.
This season, Thompson has scored 12 goals, with six of those game-winning goals and three assists. In 55 career matches as a Blazer, he has totaled nine game-winning goals.
With his performance last week, he was also selected as the National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association (NSCAA) Division III Player of the Week, as announced by the NSCAA. He becomes the second Blazers student-athlete to earn the honor in the NCAA era.
