JACKSON, Miss. – Belhaven Softball senior outfielder
Dominique Corona has been selected as the C Spire Athlete of the Week, following her performances during the week of April 6-12.
Corona helped lead the Blazers to a 3-1 week, with wins over Bethel (Tenn.) and Martin Methodist (Tenn.).
The Riverside, Calif., native hit .545 (6-for-11) over the four-game stretch with two doubles and a home run. She also added two walks.
Corona scored three runs and recorded five RBI on the week, while slugging 1.000 for the week.
In Belhaven's game one win against Martin Methodist, Corona hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Belhaven the lead for the first time in the game en route to a 7-5 victory.
Corona leads the SSAC and the NAIA in fielding percentage (1.000), while ranking among the conference leaders in batting average (12th, .368), hits per game (17th, 1.03), doubles (18th, 6) and runs batted in per game (20th, .61).
Corona has also been recognized as the first SSAC Softball Player of the Week honoree for Belhaven in 2015 after her performance this past week.
Corona and the rest of the Blazers softball team will play a pair of doubleheaders this week against Blue Mountain College, the first on the road on Thursday, before playing at home on Saturday.
