Lydia Smith Begins her
first season as the Head Volleyball coach for the Belhaven Blazers.
Last year, Smith served as assistant coach for the GCAC Tournament
Champion Blazers.
“Lydia possesses character,
experience and a love for our student-athletes and for Belhaven College”, said
Belhaven Athletics Director Scott Little. “She is a great fit for the future of
our program.”
Coach Smith has coached numerous
volleyball camps at the high school level, as well as for Fellowship of
Christian Athletes and the University of Texas- Austin summer camps. Coach
Smith has coached at the Junior Olympic Volleyball level for two years with Club
Momentum in Indiana. Coach Smith earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor
University in Upland, Indiana, where she played four years of varsity collegiate
volleyball for the Trojans. During her college career, the Trojans took home
two conference championships, as well as two bids to the NAIA Region XIII
tournament.
“This will be a great year for
Belhaven College Volleyball!”, said Coach Smith. “We had a tremendous previous
season, finishing 25-11 and as Conference Tournament Champions. I have high
expectations for this year’s team, as we will be returning the core group from
last year’s GCAC Tournament Championship team, and adding several key
newcomers. I am truly blessed and thrilled to be working with these Lady
Blazers!”
