Blazers Tennis Drops Match to Spring Hill
Joel Thornton Jackson, Miss., The Belhaven College Tennis Team dropped a dual match meet to the Spring Hill College Badgers on Monday. The ladies lost by a score of 2-7, and the men fell 4-5. Women Kirby Smith was involved in both of the Lady Blazers' victories as she won her singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-0, and then she paired with Neely Johnson to take their doubles match, 8-4. Men The Blazers were involved in a slugfest that went down to the final match to give the Badgers the victory. They were a force in the doubles matches as the teams of Prado/Sturgis and Mitchell/Murove won 2 of the 3 doubles matches. Harris Brabston and Josh Sturgis won their singles matches to give the Blazers their other 2 victories. The Blazers will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Livingston, AL, to take on the University of West Alabama. Match times are set to begin at 2:00 PM.
Blazers Tennis Blanks Rust
Joel Thornton Jackson, Miss., The Belhaven College Tennis Team defeated Rust College in a sweep of all matches on Saturday. Kirby Smith and Neely Johnson won their singles and doubles match without allowing their Rust opponent to score a single point. The Blazers' men also drove through the competion winning all of their matches, losing only 1 game on the day.
Blazers Tennis Starts Season With Victory
Joel Thornton Jackson, Miss., Belhaven College Tennis started the 2008 season off with a bang on Saturday, as the men defeated Tougaloo College 6-3 and the women took a 3-1 advantage in a match that was suspended and will be finished at a later date. MEN The Blazers took 2 out of 3 doubles matches as Gabriel Prado and Josh Sturgis won their match 8-0 and Harris Brabston and Jim Strickland took their match 8-1. Taps Murove and Alex Grubbs were narrowly defeated by a score of 6-8. Gabriel Prado, Josh Sturgis, Harris Brabston, and Jim Strickland all took singles matches to give the Blazers the victory. WOMEN The Lady Blazers also started the year off positively as they jumped out 3-1 against Tougaloo in a match that was suspended and will be finished later. Kirby Smith and Neely Johnson took the only doubles match of the day 8-1. Smith and Johnson also won their singles matches, while Lyndsey Berg dropped the Lady Blazers only match.
