Lady Blazers Get California Commitment

Jackson, Miss., The Lady Blazers Softball Program is proud to announce the signing of Hartnell Community College standout Viviana Villarreal.  The power hitting outfielder is from Salinas, California where she is an All-Conference junior college player, who prepped at North Salinas High School, and played along side teammate Monica Abbott.  “Viviana is a great addition to this signing class and will have an immediate impact on our program."

Orange Beach, Ala., Two Belhaven College Softball Players were selected to the 2008 All Region XIII Team on. Lauren Biediger, and Mallory Meadows were selected for this year's honor as they led the Region in homeruns (14) and hits (Biediger 62, & Meadows 64).

 

Lady Blazers' Season Ends

Orange Beach, Ala., The Belhaven College Softball Team's season came to an end with a 1-6 los to William Carey. The Lady Blazers finish the 2008 season with a record of 31-26 and a conference record of 6-6.

Sarah Burns took the loss for the Lady Blazers as she pitched a complete game, allowing 4 earned runs, on 8 hits.

Mallory Meadows provided the only run the Lady Blazers would score, as she hit her fifteenth of the season in the second inning. Meadows went 2 for 3 in the game.

Tiffany Ansley and Britney Webb provided the only other hits the Lady Blazers would get in the game. Ansley went 2 for 3 with a double, and Webb 1 for 3.

Congratulations to the 2008 Lady Blazers Softball Team on completing a successful season that culminated in a bid to the 2008 Region XIII Tournament.


 

Lady Blazers Drop Lee, Advance in Region Tourney

Orange Beach, Ala., The Belhaven College Softball Team (31-25, 6-6) extended their 2008 season by defeating Lee University in a elimination game at the Region XIII Tournament. The Lady Blazers won by a score of 3-2.

Salina Cervantes took a no decision in the start. Sarah Burns (17-12) took the win in relief as she pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing only 1 earned run, and striking out 13.

Lauren Biediger powered the Blazers offense as she went 2 for 2 from the plate, with a homerun, and a walk. Other Lady Blazers with offensive contributions were Britney Webb (2-4, run scored, 2 stolen bases), Jor'Dan Orr (0-1, BB, RBI, run scored), and Keresa Steichen (1-3, DBL).

the Lady Blazers will take the field again at 2:00 PM to take on William Carey University in an elimination game.

 

Lady Blazers Fall In Tournament

Orange Beach, Ala., The Belhaven College Softball Team (30-25, 6-6) dropped its opening round game of the 2008 Region XIII Tournament to William Carey University by a score of 3-4.

Mallory Meadows took a no decision in her start for the Lady Blazers as she pitched 4 innings allowing 3 earned runs with 2 strike outs. Sarah Burns took the loss as she pitched the final 2 innings, allowing 1 earned run, with 3 strike outs.

Mallory Meadows and Keresa Steichen had the hot bats for the Lady Blazers as they each went 2 for 3, with a run scored on the day. Steichen had a double to provide the only Belhaven extra base hit of the game. Britney Webb and Christy Pugh each had a hit in the contest.

The Lady blazers will be back in action tomorrow at 11:00 AM as they face the Lee University Lady Flames in second round action.

That game will be played on Tuesday, May 6, at 11:00 AM. The winner of the game will move on to play Shorter College at 2:00 PM. Lady Blazers Reach Regional Field

Clinton, Miss., The Belhaven College Lady Blazers Softball Team learned Saturday afternoon that all of their hard work, determination, and a tough schedule has paid off when the Region XIII tournament field was announced. The Lady Blazers join the University of Mobile, Shorter College, William Carey University, Faulkner University, and Lee University.

Clinton, Miss., Three Belhaven College Softball Players were selected to the 2008 All Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Team on Saturday. Lauren Biediger, Mallory Meadows and Sarah Burns were selected for this year's honor after having stellar seasons for the Lady Blazers.

Lauren Biediger, a senior first baseman from Houston, TX, tied Mallory Meadows for the team lead in home runs this year with 14. They also made a place for themselves in Belhaven's record book, breaking the school record of 12 set last year by Biediger and Britney Webb. Biediger led the team with a .452 batting average and has been hit by pitches 21 times this season.

Sarah Burns, a sophomore pitcher from Edmond, OK, posted a 16-11 record this season with 3 saves.  Burns was a workhorse this season as she pitched 190 1/3 innings. Burns posted 206 strike outs on the season, an average of almost 10 per game.

Mallory Meadows, a junior pitcher/outfielder from Daphne, AL, made this year's team because of her success with the bat. In addition to Meadows' earlier stated home run record, she led the team in hits (64), doubles (11), RBIs (45), and total bases (117).

Clinton, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (30-24, 6-6) lost a GCAC Tournament elimination game to Spring Hill College on Saturday by a score of 0-1.

Salina Cervantes (0-1) took the loss for the Lady Blazers as she allowed only 1 run on 3 hits through 3 innings of work. Sarah Burns pitched 3 scoreless innings in relief, with 4 strike outs.

The Lady Blazers only tallied 4 hits on the day. Britney Webb and Meghan Pursell had doubles, while Lauren Biediger and Christy Pugh each added a single.

Clinton, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (30-23, 6-6) dropped their opening game of the 2008 GCAC Tournament to the #13 William Carey University, Lady Crusaders, by a score of 0-6.

Sarah Burns (0-1) took the loss for the Lady Blazers as she pitched a complete game allowing 6 earned runs, striking out 6.

Britney Webb, Lauren Biediger, Meghan Pursell, Christy Pugh and Jessica Eggold all picked up singles in the loss.

The Lady Blazers will now have to win the tournament from the losers bracket, and that journey starts at 10:00 AM as they will face the Spring Hill College Lady Badgers.

 

Lady Blazers Fall to #10 William Carey

Ridgeland, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (27-22, 6-6) lost both game of a double header on Tuesday afternoon to #10 William Carey University. Game scored were 0-5, and 0-8. With the losses, the Lady Blazers finish the regular season in 3rd place in the GCAC.

Game 1

Sarah Burns (16-10) took the loss in game 1. She allowed 4 earned runs, on 7 hits, in 5 innings. Mallory Meadows pitched the final 2 innings if relief, allowing 1 earned run, with 1 strike out.

Tiffany Ansley was the only Lady Blazer with multiple hits in the game as she had 2 of the 5 total hits for the Lady Blazers in the game.

Devin King (6-2) took the complete game shut out victory for the Lady Crusaders. King held the Lady Blazers to 5 hits and pitched her way out of a bases loaded no out jam in the 1st inning to set the tone for the rest of the game.

Game 2

Salina Cervantes (5-5) took the game 2 loss as she allowed 2 earned runs in 3 innings pitched. Mallory Meadows pitched 2 innings in relief.

Devin King (7-2) took the complete game win for the Lady Crusaders as she pitched 5 shutout innings. King allowed the Blazers only 2 hits in the game.

Britney Webb, and Tiffany Ansley provided the only Lady Blazers hits in the game.

Both teams will lock up again on Friday, at 6:00 PM, as they meet in the first round of the 2008 GCAC Tournament.

 

Lady Blazers Sweep at #10 William Carey

Hattiesburg, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (27-20, 6-4) accomplished a feat that no other team has accomplished in 2008, they swept William Carey University on the road Saturday. The Lady Crusaders came into the game with a home record of 13-1. The Lady Blazers shut out the Lady Crusaders by scores of 5-0, and 3-0.

Game 1

Sarah Burns (16-9) took a complete game victory in game one, as she allowed no runs, in 7 innings, allowed no walks, and struck out 10.

Jor'Dan Orr paced the Lady Blazers offense in game 1 as she went 3 for 4 on the game with a double, a stolen base, and 2 runs scored. Meghan Pursell led the team in RBIs, as her bases loaded single in the first scored Jor'Dan Orr and Lauren Biediger for the game winning RBIs. Mallory Meadows also earned an RBI, as her double scored Jor'Dan Orr in the 7th.

Devin King took the loss for the Lady Crusaders as allowed 4 earned runs in 6 innings. Brittany Fuller pitched 1 inning of relief, striking out 1.

Game 2

Salina Cervantes (5-4) combined for the shut out win in game 2. Cervantes took the win with 5 innings pitched, giving up 4 hits, and 4 strike outs. Mallory Meadows earned her second save of the season as she pitched the final 2 innings, giving up 1 hit, and striking out 3.

Britney Webb and Mallory Meadows led the Lady Blazers' offense with 2-hit performances. Meadows and Jor'Dan Orr had the only 2 RBIs in the game as Meadows' fielder's choice scored Jor'Dan Orr in the 3rd, and Jor'Dan Orr's single scored Jessica Eggold in the 5th.

Brittany Ladner (12-3) pitched a complete game loss for the Lady Crusaders as she allowed 2 earned runs in 7 innings. She allowed 8 hits, with 2 strike outs.

The Lady Blazers will be back in action on Tuesday as they return to Freedom Ridge Park to play host to the William Carey Lady Crusaders in the final GCAC double header of 2008. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.

 

Lady Blazers Drop Double Header to #7 Mobile

Jackson, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (25-20, 4-4) dropped a road double header to the #7 University of Mobile Lady Rams on Thursday. Game scores were 0-4, and 4-6.

Game 1

Sarah Burns (15-9) took the complete game loss for the Lady Blazers in game 1. Burns allowed 4 earned runs, and struck out 4, through 6 innings.

The Lady Blazers were unable to push any runs across in game one, but Lauren Biediger and Mallory Meadows posted multi-hit games as Biediger went 3 for 4, and Meadows 2 for 3.

Game 2

Salina Cervantes (4-4) took the loss in game 2. Cervantes allowed 5 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Malory Meadows finished the game pitching the final 1/3 inning in relief.

Lauren Biediger's 3 for 3 performance highlighted the game for the offense. Biediger had 2 RBIs, an RBI double in the 4th and an RBI single in the 6th. Mallory Meadows and Tiffany Ansley also had RBIs in the game.

The Lady Blazers will be back in action on Saturday, as they travel to Hattiesburg, MS, to take on the William Carey University, Lady Crusaders. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.

Jackson, Miss., Sophomore pitcher Sarah Burns has been selected as the GCAC Pitcher of the Week, for the week ending April 13, 2008. Burn made 3 appearances in the week, 2 in the Lady Blazers double header sweep against Spring Hill, and 1 against Alcorn State University. She logged a victories against Spring hill and a 1 run loss against Alcorn. Burns struck out 18 batters in 13 innings on the week.

Jackson, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (25-18, 4-2) swept a double header from NCAA DI opponent Jackson State University on Tuesday afternoon. Game scores were 3-0 and 4-2. The highlight of the day was Lauren Biediger's 3-run home run in the 7th inning of game 2 to give the Lady Blazers the 4-2 victory.

Game 1

Salina Cervantes (4-3) took the complete game, shut out, victory in game 1. She allowed only 3 hits and struck out 3.

The Lady Blazers banged out 3 runs on 7 hits. Jessica Eggold had the only multi-hit performance in the game as she went 2 for 4, with 1 RBI, and 1 run scored. Other Blazers producing with the bats were Jor'Dan Orr (1-4, 3B, run scored), Lauren Biediger (1-4, run scored), Mallory Meadows (1-2, BB, RBI), Tiffany Ansley (1-3), and Meghan Pursell (1-3, RBI).

Game 2

Sarah Burns (15-8) took the victory, replacing Mallory Meadows who allowed 1 earned run in 1 2/3 innings pitched. Burns pitched the final 5 1/3 innings allowing only 1 earned run, on 2 hits, with 7 strike outs.

Jessica Eggold provided the 1st RBI in the game as her fly ball scored Lauren Biediger in the 5th inning.

The Lady Blazers will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Mobile, AL, to take on #10 University of Mobile Rams in a GCAC double header. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.

Lorman, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (23-18, 4-2) split a double header with NCAA DI opponent Alcorn State University on Thursday afternoon. Game scores were 1-3, and 11-0.

Game 1

The Lady Blazers took a 1 run lead into the 6th inning when the Lady Braves erupted for 3 runs to take the lead. Sarah Burns (14-8) took the loss as she pitched a complete game allowing only 3 earned runs, and striking out 7.

Lauren Biediger put herself in scoring position in the 4th inning with a double, and Mallory Meadows pushed her across the plate with a double of her own, to score the Lady Blazers only run of the game.

Game 2

Salina Cervantes (3-3) pitched a gem for the Lady Blazers in the 2nd game. Cervantes pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only 1 hit, and striking out 7.

Mallory Meadows and Tiffany Ansley paced the Lady Blazers offense in the second game as each logged 3 RBIs in the ballgame. Meadows was 2 for 3, with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Ansley was 2 for 3, with 1 run scored, and 3 RBIs. Mika Dove (2) and Keresa Steichen (1) also had RBIs in the game.

The Lady Blazers will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel across town to take on NCAA DI opponent, Jackson State University. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.

 

Lady Blazers Sweep Double Header From Spring Hill

Mobile, Ala., The Belhaven College Softball Team (22-17, 4-2) swept a double header from Spring Hill College on Tuesday afternoon. Game scores were 8-0, and 9-1. The sweep marks the first time in recent memory that the Lady Blazers have swept the GCAC rival.

Game 1

Sarah Burns (14-7) and Mallory Meadows combined for the complete game shutout in game 1. Burns pitched 5 innings allowing 4 hits and striking out 9. Meadows pitched the final 2 innings allowing no hits and logging 2 strike outs.

Britney Webb (3-4, SB, 2 runs scored), Lauren Biediger (2-4, HR, 2 RBIs), and Mallory Meadows (3-4, DBL, RBI, 2 runs scored provided the bulk of the offense in game 1. Other Lady Blazers with RBIs were Jor'Dan Orr (0-4, RBI, BB, runs scored), Tiffany Ansley (2-4, RBI, run scored), Keresa Steichen (2-4, DBL, 2 RBIs), and Christy Pugh (1-3, RBI).

Game 2

Sarah Burns took the no decision in game 1. She pitched the first 2 innings but was pulled with a 9-0 lead after already having pitched 7 innings on the day.  Salina Cervantes (2-3) took the win as she pitched the final 3 innings allowing no hits and striking out 4.

Lauren Biediger, once again, had a monster game as she went 2 for 3, 4 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and a mammoth homerun. Jor'Dan Orr and Mallory Meadows also tallied extra base hits in the game as each had a double. Christy Pugh also had 2 RBIs in the game with a 2 run single.

The Lady Blazers will be back in action on Thursday afternoon as they travel to Lorman, MS, to take on the Alcorn State University Lady Braves in double header action. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.

 

Lady Blazers Top Delta State on Road

Cleveland, Miss., The Belhaven College Softball Team (20-17, 2-2) defeated the Delta State University Lady Statesmen by a score of 8-7 on Thursday afternoon in the first game of a 6 game weekend road trip. The victory marks the first time in program history that the Lady Blazers have defeated the Lady Statesmen.

Sarah Burns (13-7) took the victory for the Lady Blazers as she pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out 2 Lady Statesmen. Mallory Meadows closed out the game pitching the final 1 2/3 innings to earn her first save of the season.

Tiffany Ansley, Jor'Dan Orr, and Lauren Biediger powered the Lady Blazers offense as they combined to go 9 for 14, with 7 RBIs, and 4 runs scored. The highlight of the afternoon was Tiffany Ansley's 3 run homerun in the 4th inning.

The Lady Blazers will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Mobile, AL, to take on Spring Hill College in GCAC action.

Biediger went 6 for 10 from the plate, with 5 RBIs, 2 homeruns, and 6 runs scored on the week. In a double header with #4 mobile, she was hit by pitch 3 times.
