KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the fifth straight poll the Belhaven men's tennis teams made an appearance on the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' poll as released by the national office on Tuesday afternoon. The Blazer women dropped out of the poll for the first time this season, but check in at 27
th in the country.
The Belhaven men went 2-0 in match play last week and improved to 12-3 on the season. A week of good results did not impact the voters enough as the Blazers stayed at 14
th in the rankings for the third consecutive poll. Belhaven is in the middle of a four-match winning streak entering this week's SSAC tournament.
Auburn-Montgomery fell to No. 2 after Embry-Riddle rallied off a handful of wins in a row to surpass the Warhawks and reclaim their top ranking. No. 7 William Carey and Belhaven are the only other teams from the Southern States Athletic Conference in the top 25 poll. Coastal Georgia and Mobile are currently in the receiving votes category.
On the women's side, Belhaven fell out of the top 25 after a 9-0 loss to Brenau two weeks ago. The Blazers rebounded with two dominating wins over Loyola and Tougaloo, but it was not enough to impress the voters this time around.
Brenau was surpassed as the No. 1 team in the women's poll by Xavier (La.) and check in at the second spot. Auburn-Montgomery stayed at third, while William Carey fell from No. 2 to No. 5 in the rankings. No. 14 Coastal Georgia and No. 23 Lee also make appearances in the poll from the SSAC.
The Blazers (10-5) hope to compete for a conference title beginning on Thursday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.
