JACKSON, Miss. – The Blazer women's tennis team ran into their toughest match of the season thus far, losing to visiting William Carey 9-0 on Monday afternoon. The No. 2 team in the country showed their depth across the lineup in a clean sweep.
Belhaven began the day with heartbreaking losses at both second and third doubles that could have turned the tide of the match. The Blazers lost each match in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-4) at second doubles and 8-7 (7-2) at third doubles.
Natalia Krier had similarly bad luck in her match at third singles, losing by the slimmest of margins in a third-set tiebreak. Krier took the first set 7-6 before dropping the second set 1-6, which set up for a drama-filled third set breaker.
Krier and her opponent Maja Vulen were knotted at eight points apiece in the tiebreaker before Vulen took the final two points for the win.
The Lady Crusaders took the rest of the singles matches in straight sets.
