Jackson, MS-Four Belhaven softball players earned NFCA All Region Honors when the awards were recently announced by the NFCA.
Mallory Meadows,
Britney Webb,
Tiffany Ansley, and
Heather Pace were all recognized by the NFCA for their efforts during the 2009 season. Meadows, Webb, and Pace made the All-Region First Team while Ansley was selected to the All-Region Second Team.
Meadows, a senior pitcher and outfielder from Daphne, AL, led the team in home runs with 18 and RBI's with 78. Meadows finished the year with a .485 batting average and checked with a slugging percentage of .909. Meadows was second in the country in home runs per game, RBI's per game, third in slugging percentage, and twelfth in batting average. Meadows also pitched in 16 games for the Lady Blazers compiled a record of 7-1 with an ERA of 3.02 and was named Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week three times.
Webb, a senior infielder/outfielder from Mobile, AL, put together another solid season for Belhaven with a .403 batting average and 40 RBI's. Webb stole 55 bases in 59 attempts which are more than another other player in the nation. Webb scored 73 runs which put her among the NAIA leaders in that category as well. Webb was also named GCAC Player of Week for the week of February 9th through February 15th.
Ansley, a junior third baseman from Miami, FL, was second on the team in batting average at .442, had 15 doubles and drove in 29 runs. Her .442 batting was good for second in the conference behind teammate
Mallory Meadows at .485. Ansley had a total of 76 hits which was second most in the GCAC and her 15 doubles placed her third in that category in the conference.
Pace, a freshman from Sherman, TX, ended her first year in a Belhaven uniform with a .407 batting average and 61 RBI's. She led the team in doubles with 24 and was among the nations leaders in that category. Pace was named GCAC and NAIA National Player of the Week along with setting a new NAIA record for most RBI's in game with 11 against William Woods University.
Belhaven finished the year with an overall record of 36-19 which establishes a new Belhaven record for most wins in a season. The NFCA All-American Awards are scheduled to be released on Friday.
