Four Blazers Make
All-GCAC Cross Country Team
Joel Thornton New Orleans, Lou., The Belhaven Blazers Cross Country team had four runners qualify for the 2007 GCAC All-Conference team on Saturday. Peter Mittwede was the lone men's representative, while Jessica Gunning, Libby Brown and Rebekah Hairston made the women's team. This weekend the team ran in the Region XIII meet with the results also determining the GCAC Championship. Jessica Gunning was the Blazers top finisher on the weekend as she finished 3rd place with a time of 21:00.66. Libby Brown finished 7th with a time of 21:41.37 and Rebekah Hairston finished 11th with a time of 22:31.20. Peter Mittwede qualified for the men's team with a time of 30:07.98.

Top Blazers' Finishers
Joel Thornton New Orleans, Lou., The Belhaven Blazers Cross Country team ran in the Big Easy Invitational over the weekend in New Orleans, LA. The meet was a joint meet hosted by Xavier University and Loyola University. Peter Mittwede led Blazers' runners in the men's 8000 meters, while Jessica Gunning led Blazers' runners in the women's 5000 meters. Jessica gunning finished in 4th place with a time of 21:30.80, while Libby Brown finished 5th with a time of 22:03.05. Rebekah Hairston and Marla Hershberger rounded out the Lady Blazers field finishing 11th and 16th respectively. Peter Mittwede finished 8th in the men's 8000 meters with a time of 31:39.29. Michael Hartman finished 10th for the Blazers with a time of 32:07.27. Other Blazers finishers were Stephen Shelt (13th, 33:32.54), Douglas Coker (17th, 32:41.32), Daniel Lyons (20th, 36:01.71) and Tyler Thornton (23rd, 37:40.32)

The Belhaven College Cross Country Team competed in the
University of Southern Mississippi Invitational this weekend.
Jessica Gunning (22:08.56) led the Blazers finishing 11th in the
women's 5k run. Michael Hartman (25:30.52) led the men with a
28th place finish in the men's 4 mile run.
Times and places for the remaining men are as follows: 38th, Peter Mittwede, 25:30.52; 41st, Doug Coker, 26:42.97; 47th, Stephen Shelt, 27:06.22; 53rd, Daniel Lyons, 28:00.14; and 63rd, Tyler Thornton, 29:52.89. For the women, Libby Brown placed 46th with a time of 25:31.368. Rebekah Hairston finished 50th with a time of 25:38.19, and Marla Hershberger finished 59th with a time of 26:50.10. The Belhaven Blazers' Cross Country Team will be back in action on Saturday, September 15, as they travel to New Orleans, LA, to compete in a dual meet with Xavier and Loyola Universities.

The Belhaven College Cross Country Team competed today in the Green
Wave Invitational at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.
Peter Mittwede led all Blazers runners as he place 6th in the men's
division 5K run with a time of 11:27.99. Jessica Gunning led the
Lady Blazers as she placed 11th with a time of 13:28.25.
Times and places for the remaining men are as follows: 9th, Michael Hartman, 12:04.41; 10th, Doug Coker, 10:42.15; 11th, Stephen Shelt, 12:44.59; 12th, Daniel Lyons, 12:48.44; and 13th, Tyler Thornton, 13:43.23. For the women, Libby Brown placed 25th with a time of 14:28.48. Rebekah Hairston finished 34th with a time of 15:22.57, and Marla Hershberger finished 37th with a time of 15:58.38 The Belhaven Blazers' Cross Country Team will be back in action on Friday, September 7, at the University of Southern Mississippi meet in Hattiesburg, MS.
