The
Belhaven Blazers, ranked #9 nationally in the NAIA poll, finished
the 2007 season with a loss to the Southern Polytechnic University
Hornets in the Region XIII Tournament. It would be great to write a
winning story here, but this time of year there can only be one
victor, although everyone participating is a winner. The Blazers
earned the honor of hosting the NAIA Region XIII Tournament by
virtue of winning the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship.
The Blazers finished the season with a record of 43-15 and a
conference record of 24-6.
CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS-
This year's senior class is one of the most successful classes in
Blazers history. This senior class boasts 3 GCAC championships (2
regular season and 1 tournament victory). They have compiled a
149-95 overall record, with a 79-46 conference record. These Blazers
have set the standard high and provided a strong cornerstone for
coach Hill Denson to continue building his version of the Belhaven
Blazers baseball program.
"IRON MAN"- Ricky Owens, Blazers
third baseman, played in every game during his four-year career at
Belhaven. With the day-to-day grind and the nagging injuries that
can hamper a player, this truly is a major milestone. With a streak
like this there is no wonder why Ricky holds career records in hits,
doubles, and RBI, and is in the top 5 in almost every other
category.
